Dr. John C. Tunnell

As a board-certified periodontist near Lakewood, Dr. Tunnell enjoys helping patients achieve their oral and overall health goals. Originally from Dallas, he earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin. He then completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio before attending The Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry for his residency program.

Always looking to hone, refine, and expand his skills, Dr. Tunnell maintains professional memberships in the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Southwest Society of Periodontists, the Texas Society of Periodontists, the Dallas County Dental Society, and SPEAR Education.

Dr. Tunnell’s decision to pursue a three-year residency program after dental school allowed him to complete advanced training in periodontics, dental implants, oral medicine, and IV sedation. This dedication to the field led him to become board-certified in periodontology and dental implant surgery by the American Board of Periodontology.

He has completed extensive research and co-authored and published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has also lectured nationally and internationally on the topic of periodontics and dental implants.

When he’s not busy in the office helping patients improve their smiles, you’ll find him with his wife, Jade, and their three children. They also have a Vizsla dog named Hugo. He enjoys working out, being outdoors, reading, and traveling with his family.
