How Dental Insurance Works

Traditional dental insurance requires policyholders to pay a monthly premium for access to benefits and coverage for preventive and restorative treatment. However, while patients pay less for some services, the contractual agreement between the dentist’s office and the insurance company can limit the quality of care they receive. Instead of providing the individual with essential treatment, dentists are more likely to adhere to what their insurance will cover.

What is the Difference Between Dental and Medical Insurance?

Many individuals believe medical and dental insurance are the same; however, they are very different. Medical insurance is used after an illness or accident occurs. It benefits the policyholder by covering more expensive forms of treatment once the person reaches their annual deductible, which is often very high.

Dental insurance in Dallas is the opposite. Companies develop policies to reward patients for taking a proactive role in their oral health. Many offer 100% coverage for preventive services and between 50-80% coverage for restorative treatment. Annual deductibles are usually low, so it is easier for patients to access their benefits.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

Although Central Perio is out-of-network with dental insurance plans, we still believe in helping our patients save when receiving periodontal treatment or dental implants. This is why we will be happy to file all insurance claims electronically on the patient’s behalf. This allows a person to use their available benefits. We will provide a service receipt that the patient can submit to their insurance company for reimbursement.

This untethered commitment we maintain allows us to provide our patients with the kind of care they deserve. Instead of recommending only services that are covered by insurance, we can give a person what they really need, all while helping them get their hard-earned money back from their insurance company.
