A gum graft is a surgical procedure in which gum tissue is removed from one part of your mouth and placed in another. This is to cover tooth roots that have been exposed by gum recession. Sometimes, gum grafting is performed before dental implants are placed to create enough support for the replacement tooth. Unlike the crowns of the teeth (the parts that are naturally above the gumline), the roots aren\u2019t protected with dental enamel, so they can easily be affected by harmful bacteria.
